It seemed like an easy road for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team as they faced the bottom-placed Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. However, with nothing to lose, MI went all guns blazing, and by the 15th over, they had taken five wickets from the batting-heavy SRH team.

In fact, spinner Piyush Chawla picked 3 crucial wickets in his 4 overs. His first wicket was that of the dangerous Travis Head, followed by Heinrich Klaasen and later Abdul Samad as SRH managed to score 136 runs. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) of 2024, Chawla made significant breakthroughs by taking the wickets of key batters.

Chawla was called in the 10.3rd over, and Head's (48 off 30) luck ran out as the MI bowler struck in his first over. It was a tossed-up delivery on the leg stump, and Head went on one knee for the sweep. Instead, he hit it straight to deep backward square, resulting in a simple catch for Tilak Varma.

He was called again, and this time Chawla got the better of Klaasen (2 off 4). The SRH batter looked to take down Chawla as he tossed one up around off. Klaasen played across the line, but the ball went on to rattle the stumps.

He came to bowl his final over and made sure he got a wicket. It was given out by the on-field umpire, but Abdul Samad (3 off 4) went for a review. It seemed to be a mere formality as the batter had already walked to the boundary ropes after having one look at the replay. Fans were happy seeing the spinner take these wickets and praised the man on X (formerly known as Twitter).

As of writing this article, SRH had lost 8 wickets and managed to score 156 runs in 19 overs. Skipper Pat Cummins is at the crease along with Sanvir Singh. For the Orange Army, Head was the highest scorer, while Abhishek Sharma (11 off 16), Mayank Agarwal (5 off 6), Nitish Reddy (20 off 15), Marco Jansen (17 off 12), and Shahbaz Ahmed (10 off 12) fell at regular intervals.

For MI, Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla both picked three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Anshul Kamboj have one each to their name.
