Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw Delhi Capitals (DC) go on a run spree as they posted 221 runs on the board but also lost 8 wickets along the way against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. While fans enjoyed the DC batting, they also did not forget to praise RR spinner R Ashwin, who took a 3-fer and gave away just 24 runs in his 4 overs.

After an explosive start by Jake Fraser-McGurk, who smashed a 19-ball 50, his opening partner Abishek Porel went on to score 65 runs off 36 balls. RR gained momentum as Shai Hope was run out, and Axar Patel (15 off 10) and Rishabh Pant (15 off 13) departed in quick succession. However, Tristan Stubbs (41 off 20) along with IPL debutant Gulbadin Naib (19 off 15) got DC to cross the 200-run mark. Rasikh Dar Salam smashed 2 fours at the end but was run out on the final ball for 9 off 3, while Kuldeep Yadav remained not out for 5 off 2.

For RR, apart from Ashwin's 3-wicket haul, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Yuzvendra Chahal all picked up one wicket each. Avesh Khan proved to be quite expensive as he leaked 42 runs in just 2 overs and was not called back.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to field. Two overseas players made their IPL debuts for both teams - Gulbadin Naib (DC) and Donovan Ferreira (RR).
