Match 54 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has already witnessed the scores crossing the 200-run mark for the first time at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. However, while runs keep pouring in, there have also been some brilliant catches taken, one of them by substitute Gowtham.

In the 14.2 overs, Naveen-ul-Haq bowled to Andre Russell, whose wicket is always important. The plan to bowl full and wide off worked in their favour. Russell threw the kitchen sink at it and only managed to slice the ball in the air. Gowtham, the substitute fielder, ran back from extra cover, kept his eyes on the ball, and dived to snaffle it with both hands.

The catch was so good that even LSG fielding coach Jonty Rhodes got up from his seat to cheer while the dangerous Russell departed for 12(8) [4s-1 6s-1]. Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) also praised the fielder for his athleticism.

As for the clash, KKR has lost 6 wickets but also posted 235 runs on the board in 20 overs. Sunil Narine, as always, gave the perfect start, scoring 81 off 39 balls. Philip Salt smashed 32 off 14 while Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 32 off 26. Rinku Singh managed to get 16 off 11 with skipper Shreyas Iyer playing a cameo of 22 off 15. Ramandeep Singh (25 off 6) remained at the crease with Venkatesh Iyer who came to face just a ball.

For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi, Yash Thakur and Yudhvir Singh Charak - who came in as a concussion sub for Mohsin Khan - took one each.
