Sydney Sweeney reveals Madame Web wig caused vomiting and overheating

Sydney Sweeney has disclosed an on-set wardrobe malfunction that caused a temporary pause in filming for the new movie Madame Web. Sweeney portrays Julia Carpenter, one of three women under the protection of superhero Cassandra Web (Dakota Johnson), in the Marvel film released on Valentine’s Day.

Yet, filming in Boston encountered a setback when a problem with her wig arose. Sweeney revealed that the strawberry-blonde hairpiece caused her to overheat and even vomit on one of the hottest days of the year.

Sydney Sweeney Opens Up About On-Set Challenges

In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, the actor discussed the uncomfortable incident. She explained the elaborate process of dealing with the wig, which involved wrapping it, gluing it down, and styling it. However, the heat became unbearable when they were filming in Boston during the summer.

“It was one of the hottest days" she recalled. The extreme heat caused her to stop filming and even led to vomiting. "I was overheating, my body was shutting down," she recounted. Despite the challenges, she maintained her composure, acknowledging that the wig added unique elements to the experience.

Marvel's Madame Web

Derived from characters in Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, Madame Web features Dakota Johnson as a woman who starts experiencing visions of the future. She then utilizes her psychic powers to safeguard three young women, including Sweeney’s character Julia, along with Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor) and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced).

The film has garnered negative reviews, with Johnson revealing that "drastic changes" were made to the script after she signed on. During a promotional tour for the movie, the star confessed to Entertainment Weekly that she found some parts of the script to be "absolutely psychotic."

Sony's Madame Web, the newest addition to the studio's hit-and-miss cinematic Spider-verse, generated just over $6 million domestically in its opening weekend. It currently holds a dismal 15% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
