The latest Malayalam blockbuster, "Manjummel Boys," made its streaming debut on Sunday. The film is available in multiple languages, including the original Malayalam on Disney+Hotstar.

It's one of the rare Malayalam movies in recent years to have enjoyed about 72 days of theatrical run before becoming available for streaming audiences. The film's extended run was powered by its amazing performance at the box office across the country.

"Manjummel Boys" transcended the barriers of language and preconceived notions about Malayalam movies being unsuitable for mass consumption, emerging as the biggest hit in Malayalam.

One of the major reasons for the groundbreaking success of "Manjummel Boys" is director Chidambaram's sleek storytelling. He wrote the film's screenplay based on the real-life events that occurred in 2006. Chidambaram, in a podcast interview , revealed that he had great conviction in the story's ability to connect with audiences worldwide.

Chidambaram's decision to convey the story more through visuals rather than dialogues helped the film reach wider audiences. For example, the film was a big hit in Tamil Nadu but was not dubbed in Tamil. Audiences there, traditionally known for ignoring Malayalam movies, embraced this film as their own. So much so that the film earned more than Rs 63 crore in ticket sales in Tamil Nadu alone.

Given that "Manjummel Boys" was set against the backdrop of Kodaikanal, where most of the characters speak Tamil, Chidambaram's visual storytelling obviated the need for dubbing it in Tamil. Not just in Tamil Nadu, the film also struck a chord with audiences in the Telugu states.

The Telugu dubbed version of "Manjummel Boys" was released in Telugu more than a month later and received a warm welcome at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film in the Telugu states.
