Animal OTT release: Here's why the Ranbir Kapoor starrer is taking so long to reach the digital platform

Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor won hearts with his incredible performance in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal. There were many who didn't really connect with the overly violent and intense character, but a majority of fans lauded Ranbir's versatility as he transformed into Ranvijay Balbir Singh on the silver screen. Post the theatrical release, movie lovers anxiously waited for Animal to arrive on OTT platforms. While some were eager to watch the film from the comfort of their homes, others were ready for a rerun. But sadly we'll have to wait a little longer for Animal's release on digital platforms.

Also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna along with Triptii Dimri, Animal made its way to theatres on 1st December. It did wonderfully at the box office and emerged as the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023. The original plan by makers was to release Animal on streaming giant Netflix on 26th January 2024. However, co-producer Cine1 Studios Pvt Ltd has now approached the Delhi High Court requesting a stay on the film’s OTT release as well as satellite broadcast. The production house is claiming that they were not paid a single penny and have accused the other producers of breaching the contract.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon because audiences are eagerly waiting to witness Anil and Ranbir’s father-son bond along with the latter’s sizzling on-screen chemistry with Bhabhi 1 Rashmika and Bhabhi 2 Triptii. While there were some netizens who felt the storyline did have a few hits and misses, Bobby’s entry and Ranbir’s swag were enjoyed by all.

After the success of Animal, the director is expected to begin work on the sequel titled Animal Park, which was announced at the end of the film. Fans are also hoping for a separate spin off movie on Bobby’s character Abrar Haque. So much potential!
